How to announce a nail price increase, and hold it

“My rate math says I'm undercharging. I need to raise my prices and I'm dreading the messages.”
The prompt
Help me announce a price increase without apologising for it.

WHAT'S CHANGING: [old and new price for each — e.g., Gel-X full set $70 → $85. Builder gel overlay $65 → $75. Soak-off $10 → $15. Art stays $15 per block.]
WHEN: [today's date and the start date — e.g., today is 1 October; new prices from 1 November]
WHY: [in your own words — e.g., my rate math showed I've been undercharging for my time, and my suite rent went up]
EXISTING BOOKINGS: [your rule — e.g., anything booked before 1 November keeps the old price, even if the appointment is after]
MY VOICE: [how you actually talk — e.g., friendly and direct, a little funny, never passive-aggressive]

Do it in this order.

1. THE NUMBERS. A table: each service, old price, new price, the increase in dollars and
as a percentage rounded to one decimal.

2. THE ANNOUNCEMENT, for a post and an email. What's changing, from when, my rule for
existing bookings, and one line of why. Under 120 words. No apology spiral — one "thank
   you" is plenty.

3. THE BANNER, one line for my booking page.

4. IF A CLIENT SAYS "that's a big jump": a reply under 40 words that holds the price and
points to booking before 1 November.

Rules: only my numbers. Don't compare me to other salons, don't offer a discount, don't
invent a reason I didn't give.

Email subject: New prices from 1 November (and how to keep the old ones)

Price update 💅

From 1 November, my prices are changing: • Gel-X full set: $85 • Builder gel overlay: $75 • Soak-off: $15 • Art: still $15 per block

Why? I did the maths on my time and found I’ve been undercharging for it, and my suite rent went up.

Here’s the good part: anything you book before 1 November keeps the old price, even if your appointment is later. So if you’ve been meaning to lock in your next few sets, now’s your moment.

Thank you for sitting in my chair. See you soon!

3. The Banner

New prices from 1 November. Book before then to keep current pricing, even for later appointments.

4. If a Client Says “That’s a Big Jump”

Totally fair to notice! The new prices reflect my time and my rent going up, so they’re staying. Good news: book before 1 November and you keep the old price, even for appointments after that.

Pro tip

Give clients time to act on the notice (this one runs a full month) and keep the “booked before” rule. It gives regulars something to do other than complain.
