Listings & SEO · P-07 — The Listing Audit
Etsy views but no sales? Audit the listing like this
“It's had a thousand views and two sales. Something is wrong and I've looked at it so long I can't see it.”
Audit this Etsy listing like someone who has never seen my shop and has four other
tabs open.
TITLE: [paste]
TAGS: [paste all 13]
PRICE: [e.g., $6.50]
DESCRIPTION: [paste the whole thing]
PHOTOS: [describe them in order — "1: sticker on white background, 2: on a laptop,
3: size next to a coin" etc.]
LAST 30 DAYS: [e.g., 1,240 views, 9 favorites, 2 sales]
Work through it in this order:
1. THE NUMBERS. What does this view-to-favorite-to-sale pattern suggest about where
people are dropping off — the photo, the price, the copy, or the trust? Say which,
and say how confident you are.
2. THE FIRST THREE SECONDS. Looking only at the title and first photo, what does a
shopper think this is and who it's for? Be blunt if it's unclear.
3. RANKED FIXES. Give me 5 fixes, highest impact first. For each: what's wrong, the
exact replacement text or instruction, and how long it takes me.
4. THE ONE THING. If I only do one, which, and what should I see change.
5. WHAT'S ALREADY GOOD. Name it so I don't break it.
Be direct. I'd rather be told the price is the problem than be encouraged.
What it produced
Run on *Poppy & Pine, "Plant Mom" vinyl laptop sticker, $6.50, 1,240 views / 9 favorites / 2 sales in 30 days.*
1. The numbers. 1,240 views to 9 favorites is a favorite rate under 1% — people are arriving and not even bookmarking. That pattern points at the photo and the price, not the description, because most of those 1,240 never scrolled far enough to read it. Two sales from nine favorites is actually a healthy close rate; your problem is upstream of interest, not downstream of it. Confidence: high on the photo, medium on the price.
2. The first three seconds. Title says sticker. Photo one is a sticker on white. A shopper learns the object and nothing else — not the size, not how it looks on something, not why this one. “Plant Mom” is doing all the personality work, and it’s competing against thousands of identical-in-spirit designs at the same price. Nothing in the first three seconds says why yours.
3. Ranked fixes
# Fix What to do Time 1 Photo 1 is wrong Make photo 1 the laptop shot, currently in slot 2. A sticker on white is a product; a sticker on a laptop is a thing someone owns. Move the white-background shot to slot 3. 2 min 2 No size in the first glance Put the dimensions in the title and burn them into a corner of photo 1 as small text. “Will it be the right size” is the silent objection that kills sticker sales. 15 min 3 Price sits in no-man’s land $6.50 is too high for an impulse single and too low to feel special. Test a 3-sticker set at $14 as a separate listing and leave this one alone. Sets convert because they justify the shipping. 30 min 4 Title carries no occasion Rewrite: Plant Mom Vinyl Laptop Sticker, Plant Lover Gift, Waterproof Water Bottle Sticker, 3 Inch Die Cut Sticker, Gift for Plant Lady(126 chars). Adds gift intent and the size.10 min 5 Description opens with specs First two lines should be the joke or the feeling — this is a sticker, personality is the product. Specs go below. 10 min 4. The one thing. Swap photo 1 to the laptop shot. Expect the favorite rate to move first — if it goes past roughly 2% over the next few hundred views, the photo was the bottleneck and you can leave the price alone.
5. What’s already good. Your close rate from favorite to sale is strong, which means the description and price do work on people who get that far. Your third photo showing scale against a coin is the right instinct — it’s just buried. Don’t rewrite the description before you’ve fixed the photos; you’d be editing the part that isn’t broken.
Give it the real numbers even when they’re embarrassing. Without the view-to-favorite ratio, any audit is just an opinion about your writing.
